In speech-language pathology, there’s no one-size-fits-all solution. When making tough decisions, I start with what the research says—but I never stop there. I always ask: does this plan respect the family’s values and language background? Is it realistic given their time, resources, and insurance situation?
If I wouldn’t want a decision made for my child without honoring all three lenses—evidence, culture, and constraints—I won’t make it for someone else’s. Thoughtful care requires looking beyond the textbook and into the lives we serve.
